Panthers finish fourth, eighth at True Team

The Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ and girls’ track and field teams finished fourth and eighth, respectively, at the Section 6AA True Team meet, held at Willmar High School on Tuesday, May 8.
The True Team format rewards team depth with expanded point tallies awarded to every finishing place. Willmar won both the boys’ and girls’ competitions with 620 and 619 points, respectively. The GSL boys scored 400 points, the girls logged 319 points.
Kyle Christensen continued his excellent season with a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.54 seconds and a second-place result in the 200-meter dash in 23.28.
William Higgins won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 42.73 for GSL’s other event victory on the day.
Higgins and Connor Kantack finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles with times of 16.68 and 17.14.
Kantack took second in the shot put with a throw of 50 feet, 9.5 inches, and third in discus at 137-11.5.
Wyatt Konen took fifth in the pole vault at 10-06, as did the 4x200-meter relay team of Christensen, Keaton Goettl, Zach Mohr and Higgins with a time of 1:38.38.
For the girls, Zoe Christensen picked up a runner-up finish in the shot put with a hurl of 40-9.5. She also placed third in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.90.
Malayh Metcalf was fifth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:27.21, with Emily Graupman (28.01) placing sixth in the 200-meter dash and Rhyan Herrmann (13.73) taking sixth in the 100-meter dash.
Erin Jaskowiak placed sixth in the long jump at 15-4.25. The 4x800-meter relay team of Grace Garoutte, Ellie Schmidt, Maddie Lemke and Metcalf also took sixth in a time of 10:51.09.
The Panthers were scheduled to wrap up their regular season with the Wright County Conference West championship meet at New London-Spicer on Tuesday, May 15, after the Chronicle went to press.
GSL will host to the Section 2A subsection meet at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24.
