Panthers make some noise before bowing out in 5AA
The season came to a close for the Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team, but the Panthers made a little bit of noise before they bowed out.
Hot off a 3-2 win at Watertown-Mayer in the Section 5AA opener on Friday, May 19, fifth-seeded GSL stunned No. 1 seed Norwood-Young America 5-1 in the second round of East subsection play on Tuesday, May 23.
“That was one of our best wins in many years,” coach Steve Davis said. “I think (NYA) may have overlooked us a bit.”
The Panthers announced their intentions early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning as Lexi Hansch scored on a Molli Cacka double before Cacka herself came around to score on a Raiders error.
Try as they might, NYA could not muster up much in the way of offense as GSL pitcher Brianna Wraspir scattered five hits over seven innings while striking out three batters.
