Panthers stumble into playoffs
Losing four of its last five regular-season games is not exactly how the Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team wanted to enter the playoffs, but that is the hand that has been dealt.
Aside from the bright spot of an 11-1 defeat of Annandale on Tuesday, May 16, the past couple weeks has seen quite a dropoff from the nine-game winning streak the Panthers posted mid-season.
New London-Spicer visited Vollmer Field on Thursday, May 18, and swept GSL in a doubleheader to close out the Panthers’ regular-season home schedule.
The hosts mustered up just one run over the two games, as Hunter Glaeser drove home Taylor Schauer to give the Panthers — playing the road team in a game originally slated to be played on the road in April – a 1-0 lead in the top of the seventh.
However, NL-S struck back to steal the game away with two runs in its final turn at-bat to win 2-1.
