Planning commission backs kennel, mining plans

The McLeod County Planning Commission voted to recommend the county board consider a kennel project in Rich Valley Township.
The county board will consider formal approval of a conditional-use permit at its meeting Tuesday, July 16, 9 a.m. Cindy Ardolf’s proposal calls for a kennel housing dogs brought to the property on 170th Street just west of Falcon Avenue south of Silver Lake for boarding as well as for her dogs. The commission limited the number of dogs at the kennel at any given time at 25. It recommended at its June 26 meeting the county OK a plan where the number of dogs allowed staying at the kennel overnight is capped at 17. Up to eight dogs can be at the kennel during the day.
Planning commissioners were seemingly uncomfortable with the initial request of 27 dogs boarded at the kennel. Conditions include annual inspections by the county and a licensed veterinarian, proper disposal of animal waste and fencing.
