Planning committee considers solar garden in Winsted Township

A 1-megawatt community solar garden is being planned in Section 15 of Winsted Township.
The McLeod County Planning Advisory Committee will recommend approval of a conditional use permit for Innovative Power Systems to the county board. The planning committee held a public hearing on the permit application Wednesday, April 26.
McLeod County Zoning Administrator Larry Gasow said a number of concerns had been raised by the Winsted Township Board of Supervisors, mostly regarding drainage tile in the proposed project area.
Evan Carlson of Innovative Power Systems acknowledged there was undocumented tile in the area, and said the company is prepared to hire a professional contractor to find and map the tile. He also said that the company will fix any tile that may be damaged during the installation of the solar panels.
