Polka music, kolaches mark 50 years of Pola-Czesky Days
The City of Silver Lake this weekend, Aug. 2-4, is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Pola-Czesky Days — an annual event that highlights the town’s rich Polish and Czech roots.
Activities and attractions have come and gone while some things haven’t changed throughout the years. As many reflect on the event that celebrates the town’s shared culture, it’s hard to overlook the volunteerism and pride surrounding it.
One of the things Sandy Posusta has worked to bring back are kolaches, which have taken a 10- to 15-year hiatus from Pola-Czesky Days. Posusta heads the Pola-Czesky Days Committee and has been to every one of the city’s favorite annual events since its inception in 1969.
