Post 641 opens summer by topping Southwest
It was a successful start to the summer season for the Plato American Legion Post 641 baseball team as the squad topped Southwest 1-0 in Cologne on Saturday, June 10.
In a game that featured just six hits even split between the teams, Carsen Streich drove home Taylor Schauer with the lone run of the game in the top of the third inning.
Schauer led off the inning with a walk, stole second, went to third on a double by Dane Schwirtz, and scored on Streich’s base hit.
The lone run held as Johnson and Luke Frahm combined on a three-hit shutout.
Johnson went three innings in his start, earning the win after allowing two hits and no walks while striking out five. Frahm notched the save with three innings of one-hit ball, striking out six while walking no one.
