Postseason begins for girls’ hoops

A pair of losses against the Wright County Conference West co-champions last week brought the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team’s regular season to an end.
The Panthers wrapped up their pre-playoff schedule with a 13-12 overall record, 6-8 in conference play.
Guard Miah Monahan led all scorers with 27 points and broke the 1,000-point plateau as GSL fell 78-58 to visiting New London-Spicer on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
Olivia Lemke posted 18 points, with backcourt mate Alison Kettner chipping in nine points.
The Panthers followed up that loss with a 68-51 setback at Annandale on Friday, Feb. 22.
Monahan again led her team with 14 points. Lemke put up nine points, with Kettner and fellow guards Kendall Guerrero and Teagan Hansch recording eight points apiece.
GSL drew the No. 4 seed for the Section 2AA North subsectional tournament and began the postseason against a familiar foe in fifth-seeded Belle Plaine on Tuesday, after the Chronicle went to press.
The Panthers defeated the Tigers 67-46 on Dec. 27 in GSL’s holiday tournament.
A win over Belle Plaine advances the Panthers to the North semifinals at Watertown-Mayer High School at 6 p.m. Friday night against either top seed Norwood-Young America or No. 8 LeSueur-Henderson.
The subsection and section finals are slated to be played on March 5 and 8, respectively, in Mankato.
