Preliminary levy decisions: Glencoe City Council split over proposed increase

After discussion during a workshop and a desire to minimize the impact in residents and businesses while paying for the needs of a slowly growing community, a divided Glencoe City Council approved its preliminary property tax levy for 2022.
The council voted 3-2 Monday, Sept. 20, in favor of a property tax levy of $3,107,000 – an 8 percent increase over the 2021 city levy. Councilors Paul Lemke, John Schrupp and Sue Olson voted in favor of the increase. Councilors Cory Neid and Allen Robeck opposed it.
Neid and Robeck said after the meeting the increase was too much.
The council set its property tax truth-in-taxation hearing for Monday, Dec. 6, 7:05 p.m. The final levy for 2022 will be set in December. It can not be increased from the preliminary property tax levy.
