President signs Klobuchar’s ‘opioid epidemic’ bill into law
President Donald Trump recently signed Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s Synthetic Abuse and Labeling of Toxic Substances (SALTS) Act, Synthetics Trafficking & Overdose Prevention (STOP) Act, and Eliminating Kickbacks in Recovery Act into law as part of a larger piece of bipartisan legislation to address the opioid epidemic.
The acts authored by the Minnesota Democrat are part of the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients and Communities Act. The SALTS Act, which Klobuchar introduced with GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, will make it easier to prosecute the sale and distribution of so-called analog drugs, which are synthetic substances that are substantially similar to illegal drugs.
