Pushed to the brink - Glencoe, Brownton, Plato fall in playoff elimination games

In the end, the opening round of the Crow River Valley League playoffs went about the way most figured they would go, with the higher seeded teams advancing to play another day.
But that doesn’t mean it was easy.
Sunday, Aug. 2, saw two elimination games. No. 6-seed Green Isle thumped No. 11-seed Glencoe at Irish Yard while No. 9-seeded Mayer hung on to squeak by No. 8-seed Brownton. Earlier in the week, No. 3-seed Watertown finished off a sweep of upstart No. 14-seed Plato.
The results advance Mayer to the region playoffs. Mayer plays at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Winsted. Mayer is now the No. 7 seed and Winsted is the No. 2 seed. Green Isle, the No. 6 seed, will face Watertown, the No. 3-seed Saturday, 11 a.m., at Watertown.
Other Region 7C playoff games feature No. 8 seed Carver at top-seeded Waconia Thursday, Aug. 6, 7:30 p.m. Cologne, the No. 5 seed, will travel west to face No. 4 seed Young America Friday, Aug. 7, 7:30 p.m.
