A quiet, but productive club
The Glencoe Sportsmen Club works hard as it continues to make its wildlife sanctuary at Oak Leaf Park a stop-worthy destination for visitors and Glencoe residents alike.
The Glencoe Sportsmen Club consists of a group of community members who manage and care for the animals in the sanctuary — all of which is solely funded by donations from the community.
The sanctuary, which is 32 acres in size, houses elk, deer, a variety of pheasants, peacocks and, in the summer, goat kids.
Fifteen active club members take turns caring for the animals during the week while other club members donate money to buy the variety of feed needed for the animals.
Besides simply managing and caring for the animals, Dave Kohout, who has been president of the club for a year now, also has taken on the role of raising pheasants for the sanctuary.
