Red Cross seeking volunteers in area
The American Red Cross serving Southwest Minnesota is looking for additional local volunteers in the McLeod County area to help families after disasters such as home fires. To bolster their ranks, the Red Cross is offering a one-day “Fast Track” training for new volunteers on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Hutchinson Library.
“One judges a community’s value by how its residents support each other in a time of need,” said Tom Fatticci, a Winthrop resident and local Red Cross volunteer. “The Red Cross provides an opportunity for common people to assist families when home fires, tornadoes, and other emergencies devastate their homes. Volunteers provide immediate relief, day or night, so survivors can take a breath and regroup.”
“More than 90 percent of the Red Cross workforce is volunteers,” added Leah Pockrandt, executive director of the American Red Cross serving Southwest Minnesota. “We’re looking for more volunteers in the Hutchinson area. It’s easy and people will be able to respond after just one day of training.”
