Rough stretch continues for softball
It has been a rough stretch for the Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team.
The Panthers, winners of four of the first six games of the season, have now lost eight of their past nine.
Last week’s run began optimistically enough. GSL battled back-and-forth with their hosts in a Wright County Conference West matchup at Watertown-Mayer on Tuesday, May 2, before falling 8-6.
Morgan Mathews drove in three runs and scored once as the visitors took the lead twice on the Royals, before the hosts rallied to hang on for the narrow victory.
GSL’s next contest was not nearly as close.
Host Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted swamped the Panthers on Wednesday, May 3, needing just five innings for a 16-1 win.
Brianna Wraspir drove in Lexi Hansch with GSL’s lone run of the game in the lopsided affair.
The Panthers returned to WCC West play the next day, yet still came up on the short side of a 14-4, six-inning loss at Litchfield on Thursday, May 4.
