Rural Stewart man dies in accident

Larry E. Rath, rural Stewart, died Tuesday, June 27, in a skid loader accident, according to the Renville County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office received a 9-1-1 call at 5:18 p.m. that day reporting a Bobcat skid loader was on its roof in the ditch and that the operator was still in the machine. The accident occurred in the 52000 block of 840th Avenue, about four miles north of Buffalo Lake in Preston Lake Township.
Responders removed Rath from the machine and attempted resuscitation, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Rath was mowing grass with an attached mower when the skid loader rolled over into the ditch. The accident remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were Buffalo Lake police, ambulance and fire departments, and North Memorial Air Care.
