Ruth Charlene Meier, 85, Hutchinson

Ruth Meier
Ruth Charlene Meier, 85, of Hutchinson, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
 
Memorial services were held Monday, Dec. 28, at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with the Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. Bonnie Westmiller was the organist. Soloist Emalee Smith sang “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” Congregational hymns were “Heaven is My Home,” “Just As I Am,” “Here I Am, Lord” and “Jesus Loves Me.”
 
Urn bearers were Mrs. Meier’s grandchildren, Julie Hutchins, Jeff Dostal, Brandon Meier, Crystal Meier and Derek Meier.
Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.
 
Ruth Charlene Meier was born March 22, 1930, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Oscar and Emma (Bullert) Klitzke. She was baptized as an infant at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Penn Township, McLeod County, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. She attended Brownton High School.
 
On Nov. 5, 1947, she was united in marriage to Harold Otto Meier at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Charlene and Brian. The couple farmed in rural Brownton for many years. They retired from farming in 1979 and moved to Hutchinson. They shared 45 years of marriage before Mr. Meier’s death on Aug. 23, 1992.
 
Mrs. Meier was a loving wife, mother, homemaker and partner in the farming operation. She was a member of Christ The King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
 
She enjoyed embroidery, baking, making angel food cakes from scratch, traveling and babysitting for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.
 
When she needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident of Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care on Feb. 17, 2015.
 
She is survived by her daughter, Charlene (Roger) Dostal of Hutchinson; son, Brian Meier of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Julie (Nate) Hutchins, Jeff (Angie) Dostal, Brandon Meier, Crystal Meier and her fiancé, Andrew Drahos, and Derek Meier and his significant other, Kiera Hittelsdorf; great-grandchildren, Gavin Hutchins, Griffin Hutchins, Cole Dostal, Connor Dostal, Alecia Meier, Tanner Ritz, Taylor Paul, Lily Meier and Khloe Meier; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Meier of Glencoe and Deloris (Harris) Rennecke of Brownton; former daughter-in-law, Sandy Meier of Hutchinson; many other relatives and friends.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Emma Klitzke; husband, Harold Meier; brother and sister-in-law, Wendell and Dorothy Klitzke; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Mike Conrin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Delmar Meier, Art and Lourine Meier, Arnold and Elsie Meier and Floyd and Ramona Meier; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gust and Emma Meier; and special uncle, Edward Klitzke.
