School bond vote is Tuesday
Glencoe-Silver Lake School District residents will go to the polls Tuesday, May 12, to vote upon a $24.19 million building bond issue.
If successful, the bond would fund the relocating of the kindergarten through second-grade students from Helen Baker Elementary School to a new addition at the high school/junior high school campus. Helen Baker would then be closed.
The project consists of 84,722 square feet of new learning space at the high school campus and nearly 3,000 square feet of remodeled space. In addition, the bond would fund about $240,000 toward the replacement of windows at the Lakeside Elementary building in Silver Lake.
The new construction would add classrooms to the Lincoln Junior High building to accommodate the K-2 students, and new junior high space between the current junior and senior high buildings on the south side, a new two-court gym for physical education and extracurricular activities, a new kitchen and cafeteria space and a new community room between the Panther Field House and the high school on the north side.
When, where to vote
Polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12. There are five polling sites, and where you vote depends on where you reside:
• Lincoln Junior High School, 1621 E 16th Street, Glencoe, for residents of the following: city of Glencoe, Glencoe Township, city of Biscay and Hassan Valley Township.
• New Auburn City Hall, 8402 Fourth Ave., New Auburn, for residents of the following: city of New Auburn and Green Isle and New Auburn townships in Sibley County.
• Plato Fire Hall, 112 Second Ave. NE, Plato, for residents of the following: city of Plato, Helen and Bergen townships in McLeod County and Young America Township in Carver County.
• Lakeside School, 229 Lake Ave., Silver Lake, for residents of the following: city of Silver Lake, Hale, Rich Valley and Winsted townships in McLeod County and Stockholm Township in Wright County.
• Brownton Community Center, 310 Second St. N, Brownton, for the city of Brownton and Penn, Sumter, Round Grove and Collins townships in McLeod County.
