Schroepfer tops in WCC West
A single hundredth of a second was the deciding margin as Glencoe-Silver Lake senior Austin Schroepfer legged his way to an individual title at the Wright County Conference West conference championship cross-country race on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at Litchfield Golf Course.
Schroepfer out-ran conference runner-up Christopher Groth of Annandale with a victorious time of 16 minutes, 44.04 seconds to 16:44.05 for the Cardinal.
The lead Panther paced a contingent that earned three all-conference awards and one honorable mention.
However, GSL missed out to Annandale for the boys’ team title by a margin nearly as narrow as Schroepfer’s interval of victory; the Cardinals claimed the team title with a score of 53 points to 57 for the Panthers.
Michael Meyer, also a senior, placed fourth with a time of 17:01.47 over the 5,000-meter course to earn his all-conference nod, with junior Tony Fischer placing seventh in 17:22.32 to become GSL’s third All-WCC West runner.
