Semi crash Friday closes Hwy. 15 south of Brownton

A semi truck crashed in the ditch along Highway 15 near its intersection with McLeod County Road 17 Friday afternoon.
The crash occurred just after 12:35 p.m. Jan. 11. The semi was heading south on Highway 15 in Penn Township, south of Brownton, when the truck, driven by Gregory Allan Portner of New Ulm, unexplainably crossed the highway and crashed into the ditch, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Road conditions were dry.
Brownton firefighters worked to extricate Portner from the 2018 Kenworth construction tractor. Portner was standing in the cab when firefighters reached him, said Brownton Fire Chief Chris Hansch. Firefighters removed the cab’s windshield to reach Portner. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. He was transported to the hospital in Glencoe.
