Silver Lake to pursue police department merger with L.P.

The Silver Lake City Council voted to move forward with discussion to pursue a police department merger with the City of Lester Prairie at its meeting Monday, May 18. The council’s idea would be to have one chief with two precincts with full and part-time officers in each community.
The two cities have discussed various ideas over the last couple of months as to how the two departments might come together.
Options the City of Silver Lake has explored include contracting the chief services with Lester Prairie, completely merging the two departments, merging the two departments with and maintaining two precincts and continuing the search for a chief in Silver Lake.
