Silver Lake votes to deny rental license renewal
The Silver Lake City Council was again faced with issues at the Villager Apartments at its meeting on Monday night.
The owner, Mike Jaunich of ATB Properties, has yet to fulfill the requirements to obtain a rental license renewal due in January of this year.
One of the main issues has been the installation of fire- proof doors in the building. City staff is working with the city attorney to pursue the issue in court which could result in up to a $750 per-day fine if the facility is not in compliance.
In a related matter, the council learned that the facility has also broken the conduct on licensed premises section of the ordinance which allows the city council to revoke or deny renewal of the license if local law enforcement is called to the premises for criminal activity three times in a 12-month period. The police department has been called to the facility on at least three occasions in the last six months for one apartment.
The owner has been sent three certified letters, which have been accepted. He has made no attempt to rectify the situation with the city.
