Skid continues for boys’ hoops

A pair of double-digit setbacks last week gave the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team its second three-game losing streak of the season and dropped the Panthers to 7-11 in the 2017-18 campaign.
GSL gave up a season-high in points in a 90-54 loss at New London-Spicer on Tuesday, Jan. 30. Individual statistics were not available.
The 90 points allowed topped the 88 points the Panthers gave up in an 88-55 loss to Holy Family Catholic in the title game of the GSL Holiday Tournament on Dec. 28.
Since that game, the Panthers have gone 3-7.
GSL followed up the NL-S loss with another Wright County Conference West defeat, 64-51, at Dassel-Cokato on Friday, Feb. 2.
The host Chargers outscored the Panthers 36-22 in the first half before holding the visitors at arm’s length after halftime en route to the 13-point win.
Forward Gabe Roepke led GSL with 14 points, with frontcourt mates Kyle Christensen and Gage Alsleben chipping in 13 and seven points, respectively.
The loss dropped the Panthers to 2-5 in the conference standings, ahead of just Mound Westonka (1-6) and Watertown-Mayer (0-5).
GSL, 3-3 this season against prospective opponents from Section 2AA, return home to host a sectional opponent in Belle Plaine at 7 p.m. Thursday night.
The Tigers are 11-9 overall this season, including a 6-3 record against sectional rivals.
It’s a back-to-back home set for the Panthers this week, as GSL returns to WCC West play at 7 p.m. Friday night against visiting Litchfield.
The Dragons are 9-10 overall this season and 4-3 in conference play, including a 60-35 defeat of the Panthers on Jan. 12.
