SL city budget proposes 3.9% decrease in 2015 tax levy

Silver Lake City Clerk Kerry Venier presented the Council with the proposed 2015 budget and levy Monday night, noting a 3.9 percent decrease in the total levy.
In 2014, the general fund levy was $375,917 and the debt service was $97,402, for a total levy of $473,319. The 2015 general fund levy is at $355,777 and the debt service levy is $99,082, for a total of $454,859, a 3.9 percent decrease.
Venier said the “big reason” for the change is an increase in local government aid. “We are getting about $20,000 more in local government aid. It went up again this year.
“We’re also eligible to receive local government aid early because we are in a disaster area,” Venier added.
He also said the state pushed the deadline for final budgets to Sept. 30, “so we do have one more meeting to make changes.”
