Soccer season ends in sectional opener

A 3-0 loss at Waseca in the opening round of the Section 2A Tournament ended the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ soccer team’s season on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Goalkeeper Zoe Christensen, playing in her final game with the Panthers, made 15 saves on the 18 shots she faced in the defeat. In 10 games as keeper, Christensen made 177 saves on 209 total shots faced. She recorded one shutout on the year and had a goals against average of 3.46.
GSL managed four shots on goal in the contest, one each from forwards Mariana Castillo and Miranda Litzau, defender Carlee Oberlin, as well as midfielder Emily Thalmann.
Thalmann finished the season as the Panthers’ leading scorer, posting five goals on 21 shots; she also had an assist. Litzau also had 21 shots this season, scoring three times.
GSL went 3-12 on the season, with wins against Mayer Lutheran (3-2), Rockford (2-0) and Worthington (1-0).
