Spring sports season officially pushed back due to April snow

Old Man Winter’s latest unwelcome visit has officially delayed the start of the spring sports season at Glencoe-Silver Lake as this week’s regularly-scheduled baseball, softball and golf openers have all been pushed back.
The Panther baseball and softball teams were both originally slated to start their seasons against Sibley East in Gaylord on Thursday afternoon, but several inches of snow whitewashing the area again this week has forced the postponement of those games until at least Monday, April 23.
The GSL girls’ golf team was scheduled to start its year in a tournament at Kimball Golf Course this Thursday as well. Optimistically, Thursday, April 12 has been penciled in as a make-up date.
Also falling prey to winter’s tyrannical grasp was the GSL baseball team’s rivalry game at Hutchinson. Initially slated for this Friday, that game has also been postponed with no make-up date on the docket at this time.
Currently, none of next week’s games have been rescheduled. However, with temperatures expected to remain below normal along with a possibility of even more snow in the forecast for next week, only the GSL track and field team’s season opener – safely nestled inside at the Minnesota State University indoor track in Mankato, looks to have a decent chance to go on as planned.
