Steven Chastek, 70, of Chaska

Steven Chastek

Steven James Chastek, 70, passed away while surrounded by his family Monday, Dec. 31, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Mr. Chastek was born Jan. 31, 1948, to Stephen and Lorna (Hoops) Chastek of Glencoe. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Glencoe.
Mr. Chastek was the youngest of two children. He spent most of his early years working and tending to the family farm with his father and his brother. The family farm taught him how to work hard, love animals, especially horses, appreciate nature, and independence to fix what’s broken. Steven attended Glencoe High School. And although he grew up on a farm in a small town, he was a rebel at heart who lived life with the pedal to the medal.
Mr. Chastek joined the United States Army in 1968. He was a man of few words, but he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind. He was tough on the outside, but gentle at heart. His true passion was hot rod classic cars or anything with an engine. He was his happiest in his garage, buried under the hood of a car with oldies music blaring and an O’Doul’s in his hand.
Steven enjoyed walking-especially with a four-legged friend, pheasant hunting, snowmobiling, fishing and boating, car shows, chips and salsa, Pepsi, everything western, Elvis Presley, and a good James Bond movie. He was a strong, loving father to three children, a grandfather (Papa “C”) to four grandchildren, a brother, and a friend. Mr. Chastek was a true cowboy at heart. His laughter, stubbornness, and one-liner jokes will forever be missed.
Mr. Chastek is survived by his daughter, Lori (Fernando) Chastek of Texas and her daughters, Stephanie and Alexandra; son, Lance (Carmen) Chastek and their daughters, Haven and Vivian; daughter, Jackie Chastek (fiancé Sam Schlagel) of Jordan, and Julie Chastek of Jordan; brother, Kenneth (Dora) Chastek of Florida; nieces, Michelle and Kim.
Mr. Chastek’s parents, Stephen and Lorna Chastek, preceded him in death.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 11 a.m., with visitation starting at 9 a.m. at Bertas Funeral Home, 200 Third St. W., Chaska.
