Struggling restaurants celebrate reopening
People escape the blazing heat, sun or the breezy, rainy weather to enjoy lunch or dinner at local restaurants. COVID-19 postponed this, with many restaurants having to shut their doors to comply with public health directives. Now, this may be a scene patrons are witnessing or even playing a role in the comeback.
Restaurant owners were allowed to open their indoor seating to 50 percent capacity Wednesday, June 10.
“We’re happy that we’re back open for full service, not just takeout and delivery,” said Angel Ramirez, whose family owns Maria’s Mexican Restaurant on East 10th Street. “If we can survive COVID, we can survive anything.”
