There’s plenty going on this summer at GSL Schools

To the editor,
Summer is here and things are very busy at GSL. As many of you know, the back parking lot at GSL High School is being redone. This project will finish near the end of July. Please continue to use the Lincoln parking lot upon entering the school. We appreciate your patience. In the end, we are going to have a much needed, new, and safe parking lot for our students, staff, and community.
The summer food program is currently happening as well. All children, ages birth to 18 years of age can come and have a free breakfast and/or lunch, Monday through Thursday. These meals are taking place in both Glencoe and Silver Lake at the school. Breakfast is served from 7:30-8:00 a.m. and lunch is served from 11 a.m. to noon. Please take advantage of this opportunity.
GSL Schools will be pushing back its start times for the 2019-2020 school year. For the upcoming school year, GSL High School and Junior High will start at 8:12 a.m. and finish at 3:20 p.m. GSL Lakeside will start at 8:10 a.m. and finish at 3 p.m. and GSL Lincoln will begin at 8:15 a.m. and finish at 3:10 p.m. Bus times will be communicated later this summer, but the change will be about 10 minutes. We are hoping that this change will make a positive impact for our students and staff. I want to thank all the families for their flexibility with this change.
I am once again soliciting community members to be a part of the Valued Stakeholders Group. This is a subdivision of our Community Schools Group. This is a group of community members that do not have children in school, yet want to be updated on what is happening in our schools. I will send updates via email to this group periodically and at times will seek input about certain initiatives and ideas. There really isn’t any time commitment, except for coming to lunch during Community Schools, which is totally optional. If you are interested, please send me an email at csonju@gsl.k12.mn.us or call 320-864-2498. This is one of our ways to stay connected with our entire community.
Looking ahead, GSL will be asking our stakeholders to support the operating levy on November 5, 2019. These dollars are critical to continue to offer the programming we have, stay at our fund balance policy, and to maximize the state aid dollars that goes with this levy. We will provide more information to all of our stakeholders as we get closer to November. The current levy is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2020. Please call or email me if you have any questions and I will be happy to answer them. My contact information is csonju@gsl.k12.mn.us or by phone at 320-864-2498. Thank you all for your continued support of GSL. Continue to enjoy your summer. Thank you all for being a part of GSL.
