Thusnelda Vollmer, 91, of Glencoe


Thusnelda “Toots” Alma Selma (Ellig) Vollmer, 91, of Glencoe, died Friday, July 7, 2017, at Grand Meadows Senior Living in Glencoe.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 10, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Daniel Welch officiating. Robin Kruse was the organist. Congregational hymns were “On Eagle’s Wings,” “What a Friend We have in Jesus” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Casket bearers were Charles Draeger, Darwin Neuhaus, Doug Schmieg, Dennis Wendlandt, Jim Lindeman and Dave Exsted. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Thusnelda “Toots” Alma Selma (Ellig) Vollmer was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Brownton, the daughter of Frank and Ida (Draeger) Ellig. She was baptized as an infant on Jan. 31, 1926, by the Rev. George Diemer at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Brownton, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth on March 17, 1940, by the Rev. Hans Werner at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn. She received her education at District 16 country school and graduated from Brownton High School in 1945.
On July 21, 1946, she was united in marriage to Alwin Vollmer by the Rev. Streufert at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church parsonage in Glencoe. They made their home in Glencoe, and they were blessed with three daughters, Gloria, Cherrie and Beverly. The couple shared over 35 years of marriage before Mr. Vollmer’s death on Nov. 19, 1981.
Mrs. Vollmer worked at Al’s Restaurant in Glencoe and then worked as a cook in the Glencoe High School for 26 years. After she retired, she worked at the concession stand for baseball games at Vollmer Field. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and also the Glencoe VFW Auxiliary Post 5102.
She loved to play cards and bingo. She treasured the time spent with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Gloria “Glo” (Ron) Geislinger of Watkins, Cherrie (Marlin) Grack of Glencoe and Beverly (Mark) Fritsch of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Carrie (Lenny) Donnay and Melanie Grack; great-grandchildren, Connor and Chloe Donnay; stepgrandchildren, Meghan and Justin Fritsch; stepgreat-grandchildren, Dylan Schwarzrock and Audrina Fritsch; stepsisters, Darlene (Irvin) Godel of Glencoe and Diane (Milan) Osmek of Burnsville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alwin Vollmer; parents, Frank and Ida Ellig; parents-in-law, Henry and Ida Vollmer; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Alice Ellig; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Jerry Neuhaus; brother-in-law, Earl Vollmer; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gladys and Wayne Hapke.
