Track and field teams optimistic for spring season
The Glencoe-Silver Lake track and field teams actually began their seasons nearly a month ago now with back-to-back scrimmages in mid-March.
Three-and-a-half weeks have passed since that time and the team was eagerly looking forward to what has become the traditional season opener, an indoor meet at Minnesota State University in Mankato on Tuesday, April 11, after the Chronicle went to press.
“We’ve had pretty decent weather for getting outside, boys’ coach Josh Metcalf said. “But we really didn’t like having three-plus weeks between meets. That was kind of frustrating.”
Metcalf’s squad returns seven members that competed in the Section 2A final meet last June, including Connor Kantack and Grayson Maresh in the discus and shot putter Jacob Litzau. Distance runners Michael Meyer and Austin Schroepfer return, as does hurdler Tyler Ehrke.
“Our strength is in our throwers, also in distance events,” Metcalf said. “We are pretty young in the sprints.”
