Trailblazer board OKs market-rate wage increases
With drivers no longer hiding their discussions about leaving for better-paying jobs, the Trailblazer Transit board approved a market-rate pay hike for staff hoping it would both quell resignations and increase the number of applications.
The board unanimously approved at its June meeting in Buffalo a $2.50 per hour market-rate pay hike for hourly-wage employees. Recognizing the importance of equity, the market-rate increase includes a 2 percent hike for lower- and mid-level managers and supervisors. The wage increase means new drivers will see their hourly starting wage at $22.67. Gary Ludwig, Trailblazer’s executive director, said the increases are moving hourly-wage staff toward the average pay for hourly-wage staff.
