Violet Gertrude Schramm, 90, of Plato

Violet Gertrude Schramm, 90, of Plato, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 20, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato. The Rev. Tyson Mastin officiated. Cheryl Andrix was the organist. Soloist Dennis Wolter sang “Amazing Grace.” Congregational hymns were “Just As I Am,” “For All the Saints” and “Abide With Me.”
Pallbearers were Roger Krohn, Robert Villnow, Ronald Engelmann, Lyle Engelmann, Homer Martin and Marlow Koch Jr. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Violet Gertrude Schramm was born May 12, 1924, in Green Isle Township, Sibley County. She was the daughter of Henry and Anna (Stuedemann) Proehl. She was baptized as an infant on June 15, 1924, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 10, 1938, both by the Rev. Dysterhoft at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township, McLeod County. She attended country school and later St. John’s Lutheran Church Parochial School in Helen Township. She graduated in 1942 from Stevens Seminary in Glencoe.
On June 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to Harold Schramm by the Rev. Schaller at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township. They made their home on the Schramm family farm northwest of Plato, and were blessed with three sons, Alan, Merlin and Kevin. They shared over 51 years of marriage before Mr. Schramm died on Nov. 7, 1998.
Mrs. Schramm enjoyed working with her husband and sons on the family farm. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato.
She loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, mowing the lawn and, in later years, liked to watch the birds that visited the farm.
She is survived by her sons, Alan Schramm, Merlin Schramm and Kevin Schramm, all of Plato; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rose of Glencoe; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna Proehl; husband, Harold Schramm, father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Emma Schramm; brothers, Raymond (Margaret) Proehl, Harry Proehl and Wilmer Proehl; sister, Rosella Proehl; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Martin Rose, Elford (Martha) Schramm and Orville (Viona) Schramm.
