Virginia Mary Meier, 91, of Glencoe

Virginia Mary Meier, 91, of Glencoe, formerly of Plato, died Monday, May 11, 2015, at the Grand Meadows Senior Living Community in Glencoe.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, May 18, at the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe with the Rev. Anthony Stubeda officiating. Sue Mielke was the organist and Shari Templin was the song leader. Musical selections were “Here I Am, Lord,” “Prayer of St. Francis,” “You Are Mine,” “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman” and “Blest Be the Lord.”
Virginia Mary Meier was born April 12, 1924, in Glencoe, the daughter of Paul and Martha (Weiss) Adelmann. She was baptized as an infant on April 20, 1924, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth on June 8, 1937, both at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church (now known as the Church of St. Pius X) in Glencoe. She attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Parochial School in Glencoe, and was a graduate of the Glencoe High School class of 1941. She furthered her education at the American Business College in Minneapolis.
On Aug. 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Willard Meier at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Glencoe. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Greg, Maureen, Gene and Ellen. The couple resided in Plato until 1990, when they returned to Glencoe. They shared 66 years of marriage.
Mrs. Meier was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. Prior to having children, she worked at the Security Bank & Trust Co. in Glencoe. Later in her life, she was employed as a clerk at the United States Post Office in Plato for 17 years. She faithfully attended the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, where she also volunteered in a number of capacities. In addition, she was a member of the Plato American Legion Auxiliary Unit 641, and also served as a volunteer at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Mrs. Meier was a kindhearted person who led by example. She had a good sense of humor and a strong faith in God. She loved to sew and created numerous quilts, wall hangings, window treatments and garments. She and her husband enjoyed going to baseball games and watching the Minnesota Twins on television. She especially cherished spending time with her family and friends.
She and her husband became residents of Grand Meadows Senior Living Community in Glencoe on Aug. 7, 2010.
She is survived by her husband, Willard Meier, of Glencoe; children, Greg Meier of Hutchinson, Maureen Meier of Park Ridge, Ill., Gene (Michele) Meier of Mound and Ellen Meier of Golden Valley; granddaughter, Lauren Meier; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Martha Adelmann; brothers, Richard (Luella) Adelmann and Eugene (Kaye) Adelmann; and sisters-in-law, Marguerite Pinner, Marcella Rueber, Anna Vroman and Eileen Sheritt.
