Volleyball remains atop WCC West
A three-game loss to the defending Class AA state champions did little to quell the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team’s enthusiasm as the Panthers bounced back from the defeat on Tuesday, Sept. 27 to sweep Dassel-Cokato two nights later and improve to 15-5 on the season.
It was a spirited night in the GSL gymnasium as the Panthers hosted the powerful Tigers in the midst of Homecoming week.
The home crowd was rowdily on its feet early as GSL took a swift 8-4 lead that forced Belle Plaine to take a timeout and regroup. The Tigers rallied to take the lead, but the Panthers were far from intimidated.
Both sides locked up in a back-and-forth struggle that saw each side have chances at victory come and go. In the end, the final rally went to the visitors, who secured the final points of the first game to surge from a 25-24 deficit to a 27-25 win.
Game two saw Belle Plaine take the lead early and hold on to record a 25-19 win, but GSL was not yet ready to call it a night.
