A whole new ballgame for girls' tennis
It is a situation that Robb DeCorsey has not had to deal with very often in his 22 years as Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ tennis coach.
The Panthers varsity squad enters the autumn season almost entirely brand new, with only one returning player – senior Lindsay Wedin – from last year’s roster.
“We are very new and very young after losing nine of our top 10 from last year,” DeCorsey said. “For the past six years we’ve had a lot of the same girls and only had to replace a couple at a time, but this year it’s a major change.”
Wedin, who played mostly third singles or first doubles last season, is now being counted on to lead the fresh-faced squad. She said that despite the overhaul, the team is in good shape.
“Ithink we’re looking good,” she said. “A lot of these young players are looking strong.”
