Winter sports on the shelf, but for how long?
It was described as a peculiar feeling as student-athletes, parents and Glencoe-Silver Lake High School volleyball and football coaches left the school Friday night. Gov. Tim Walz’s executive order aimed at limiting the spread of coronavirus brought the high school fall sports seasons to an abrupt end. The GSL volleyball team defeated Rockford. The football team was thumped in a hastily organized game for third place against a team two days earlier they didn’t expect to play.
Walz’s order places winter sports season on the shelf until Dec. 19. GSL Activities Director Dean Schwirtz isn’t expecting any sort of midnight madness start to the basketball, wrestling or dance seasons on that Saturday morning.
