Workshop provides indepth look at city’s budget, financial needs
City of Glencoe Finance Director Todd Trippel briefly presented the preliminary levy proposed for 2018 at the city council’s finance workshop on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
City Administrator Mark Larson is proposing a 4.886 percent increase from 2017, which brings a total of $2.383 million Trippel reminded everyone at the meeting that the city always accepts the maximum amount available with the understanding that the levy can only be lowered before it is finalized. Historically, the city has lowered the preliminary levy every year; however, Mayor Randy Wilson encouraged the council members and department heads to keep an open mind about perhaps using the extra revenue from the levy “to do projects we otherwise wouldn’t be able to do.”
Trippel said the preliminary levy should be set at the next City Council meeting.
In other business, each department head was given the opportunity to highlight proposed expenses, changes and projects for the 2018 budget.
