Flag retirement planned June 14

To the Editor:
The birthday of the American flag is June 14. It is a day to be proud of the Stars and Stripes.
The red in our flag symbolizes sacrifice and courage, and its white reflects purity of purpose, and the stars in the blue field represent unity of efforts by the states. Those are powerful attributes through which all of our citizens have made this country free and powerful. That is what our flag symbolizes today.
VFW Post 5102 will conduct a flag retirement ceremony Sunday, June 14, at 7 p.m., at the VFW Club. Worn and faded flags may be dropped at this location by noon.
