Robert "RJ" Cripps
It’s been a long and bumpy road, but Silver Lake has a new police chief.
The police chief search discussion was the topic of a lengthy discussion at the Feb. 16 Silver Lake City Council meeting.
The hiring committee, consisting of public safety liaison Nolan Johnson, councilor Brenda Fogarty and City Clerk Kerry Venier reported to the rest of the Council that it had gone through five applications and held preliminary interviews with two candidates.
One candidate was a retired veteran of the New York Police Department. The second was interim police chief Robert “RJ” Cripps.
Venier suggested that the Council first decide how they wanted to proceed.
The Council heard from Harvey Mikolichek, who urged the Council to move forward with contracting with the McLeod County Sherieff’s Department for 40 hours of coverage.
