Jean Frances (Ardolf) Penas was born January 29, 1942 to Francis and Evelyn Ardolf at Glencoe Hospital. Jean was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church and attended St. Joseph Catholic School through 8th grade. She graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1959. Jean was a faithful member of the Church of the Holy Family, Rosary Society, CCW, the Adult Choir, and the Guatemala Mission Group.
On May 23, 1961 Jean and Ron Penas were united in marriage at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake. They shared 55 years of marriage and were blessed with two boys, Michael and Robert.
Mrs. Penas grew up on her parent’s farm east of Silver Lake. As a teenager, she helped her parents run the hardware store in Silver Lake. She was a very talented and crafty person. Over the years she did many crafts such as crocheting, embroidery, and ceramics.
Mrs. Penas was the local florist for many years, and had owned her business, Jean’s Floral and Craft, for the past 20+ years out of her home. This business quickly turned into a family affair as she taught her two daughters-in-laws the art of floral design so they could help her, and Ron quickly became the family delivery man. Over the years she gained many customers through word of mouth and was well known throughout the area. Her favorites were the interesting and complex arrangements she was asked to design.
Mrs. Penas had many hobbies and enjoyed many vacations with friends and family. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and their accomplishments. When the grandchildren were old enough, she took each of them to visit the mission in San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala to show and teach them about helping others. She was looking forward to seeing her last grandchild graduate from high school and seeing in person what happens behind the scenes at NASCAR and ARCA races.
Mrs. Penas is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ron Penas, sons and daughters-in-law: Michael (Lori) Penas and Robert (Peni) Penas; grandchildren: Jennifer Penas of Utica, NY, Andrew and Evelyn Penas of Silver Lake, Francis Penas of Mooresville, NC; brothers and sister-in-laws: Elaine (Jerome) Hemerick, Val (Robert) Shamla, LeRoy (Judy) Penas; numerous friends and family members.
Mrs. Penas is preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Evelyn Ardolf; in-laws Frank and Emma Penas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
