Consuelo (Vazquez) Gomez, 65, of Winthrop, died Friday, April 14, 2017, at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, April 18, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Glencoe, with the Rev. Tony Stubeda officiating. Sue Mielke was the organist. The Spanish Choir was the song leader. A solo was “Amor Eterno.” Musical selections were “Entre Tus Manos,” “Cien Ovejas,” “Alegres Tomamos” and “Adios, O Virgen de Guadalupe.”
Casket bearers were Jorge Ruiz, Miguel Arturo, Victor Ruiz, Jamie A. Colin Jr., Alexandro Jimenez, Jessie Jimenez, Antonio Jimenez, Rodrigo Vasquez, Edmundo Vazquez, Marcelo Lopez, Tim Hoppe, Jamie Colin, Jorge Jimenez and Jorge Jimenez Jr.
Interment was in the Glencoe Catholic Cemetery.
Consuelo (Vasquez) Gomez was born Oct. 2, 1951, in La Mesa, Texas, the daughter of Esteban and Juanita (Tepezano) Vazquez. She was baptized in 1951 in La Mesa, Texas. She was confirmed in May 1998 in Glencoe. She attended school at CD Juarez Chihuaha, Mexico.
In December 1973, she was united in marriage to Jorge Ruiz Barraza in El Paso, Texas. The couple made their home in CD Juarez Chihuahua, Mexico; El Paso, Texas; and Winthrop. Their marriage was blessed with six children.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she was a hard-working woman. At a young age, she had to help raise her family. She loved going to church. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Glencoe.
She enjoyed watching her favorite game shows on TV, collecting angel statues and figurines, and listening to music from her generation. She loved traveling to Mexico and spending time with her family there. She cherished the time spent with her friends and family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Jorge Ruiz, Martha (Tim) Hoppe, Miguel Arturo (Heather Drew) Vasquez, Teresa Yolanda (Jamie A.) Colin, Margarita Lluvia Ruiz and Marisela Consuelo (Jorge) Jimenez; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Marcelo) Lopez, Victor Ruiz, Jamie A. Colin Jr., Angelica Vasquez, Alexandro Jimenez, Sam Hoppe, Jessie Jimenez, Antonio Jimenez, Rebecka Hoppe, Josh Vazquez, April Jimenez, Ashley Jimenez, Alice Jimenez, Tomas Ruiz, Melenyk Colin, Jorge Jimenez and Logan Ruiz; great-grandchildren, Adam Lopez, Darissa Lopez, Benjamin Lopez, Sullivan Ruiz and Anahi Lopez; siblings, Teresa Vasquez, Julia Lopez, Alicia Vazquez, Estefana Vazquez, Rodrigo Vazquez, Marisela Vazquez, Arturo Vazquez, Edmundo Vazquez and Alfredo Vazquez.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Esteban and Juanita Vazquez; husband, Jorge Ruiz Barraza; and brother, Alfredo Vazquez.
