The city of Silver Lake has some familiar faces in new roles.
After the resignation of City Clerk Kerry Venier earlier this summer, who took a job with the city of Duluth, the city looked to fill that job and found a candidate in its then municipal liquor store manager, Jon Jerabek. Jerabek was offered the job after interviews with candidates, and accepted. The City Council then went searching for a new liquor store manager, and filled that position with Ashley Ardolf-Mason, who had been a bartender at the liquor store.
Both Jerabek and Ardolf-Mason are a little over a month into their new positions and, while much is familiar, much is new.
Both are natives of the Silver Lake area, so they are familiar with and familiar to residents.
After graduating from Glencoe-Silver Lake High School, Jerabek attended St. John’s University, majoring in communications. To fill in while he tried to find a position in his field, he started part-time bartending at the liquor store. After the manager retired about four years ago, Jerabek took over as the manager.
Not sure that was what he wanted to do as a career, Jerabek “stuck it out, and I’m glad I did. I enjoyed working with the community and the employees.”
When Venier submitted his resignation, he encouraged Jerabek to apply for the job.
