The high from toppling Hutchinson did not last long for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team.
Just four days after knocking off the No. 1-ranked team in Class AAA, the Panthers suffered their first defeat of the season in a 69-54 thumping at the hands of visiting Mayer Lutheran on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
GSL trailed the visiting Crusaders 34-27 at halftime and was outscored 35-27 over the final 18 minutes en route to defeat No. 1 of the young campaign.
Panther guard Mac Monahan was the game’s high scorer with 17 points. Backcourt mates Miah Monahan and Olivia Lemke notched 15 and 11 points, respectively.
The loss dropped GSL to 3-1 on the season.
However, the Panthers quickly rebounded from their initial setback by topping visiting Sibley East 62-52 on Saturday, Dec. 16.
As has been her habit in four of five GSL games, Mac Monahan again led the way in scoring with a game-high 28 points. Miah Monahan had 15 points for the second-straight contest, with Lemke chipping in 10 points.
The Panthers carry a 4-1 record into a Thursday night matchup at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.
The Thunderbirds were 6-0 on the season as the Chronicle went to press, yet have played just one team with a winning record.
