The Crow River Sno Pros, Inc,. are continuing their unique competition from last year, Restore a Wreck, bringing families to the McLeod County fairgrounds from across five states. The Restore a Wreck competition calls for parent-child teams to restore vintage snowmobiles and show them off for pride, prizes and fun.
The competition will be judged at the Sno Pros annual vintage sled show and swap meet Saturday in Hutchinson.
This year, Glencoe’s own Brent Wendlandt and Taygen Koch will be entering a restored snowmobile, donated to them by the city of Glencoe. After the competition on Saturday, a duo who signs up to restore a wreck for next year’s competition will be receiving a snowmobile from the city as well.
There are a lot of prizes to be handed out this year: $600 in cash prizes as well as over 50 trophies for the different classes. The first, second and third place winners of the Restore a Wreck competition will walk out with $300, $200 and $100 cash prizes, respectively, as well as earning a trophy. As for the other trophies, they will be handed out to those who are voted the top of their class. The classes are: 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and race, each giving out two trophies—one for the sled that has come the farthest in restoration, and one for the most aesthetically pleasing sled. There are other ways to earn trophies at the event as well.
“It’s a really good opportunity for a parent and their kid to bond,” said Ryan Voss, emcee of the Crow River Sno Pros’ event, about the Restore a Wreck competition.
