The Brownton Bruins lost their second game in a row on Friday, May 11, with a 5-3 setback at Hutchinson.
Brownton trailed 2-0 after the first inning, but rallied to take a 3-2 lead with solo runs in the second, third and fifth innings. Mason Goettl’s leadoff home run in the top of the fifth put the Bruins ahead for the first time.
However, Hutchinson stormed back for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the two-run lead it held until the game’s final out.
Brent Baumetz took the loss after three innings in relief of starting pitcher Seth Schuette. Both pitchers faced 17 batters – Schuette allowed three hits, two walks and one earned run while striking out two; Baumetz gave up five hits, one walk and two earned runs with three strikeouts. Austin Thompson tossed the eighth and final inning, striking out two while allowing one hit.
Taylor Schuette scored Brownton’s first run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Dane Daak, with Ryan Grams plating the Bruins other run on an infield grounder by Deryk Randt. Grams had Brownton’s lone multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.
The Bruins travel to Gaylord on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., before hosting Glencoe in the home opener at 5 p.m. Saturday.
