Carol A. Picha, 79, of Glencoe, died Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at her home.
Memorial services were held Saturday, June 9, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Hutchinson with Walter Patino officiating. Paige Olson was the organist. Sarah Ostvig and Jo House performed a duet. Congregational hymns were “Nearer, My God, to Thee” and “Oh, My Father.”
A private family burial was held in the Ralph Picha Family Cemetery Association in rural Glencoe.
Carol A. Picha was born Dec. 16, 1938, in Graham County, Arizona, the daughter of Andrew and Zereta (Farnsworth) Angle. She was baptized and confirmed at the age of 8 in The Church of Jessus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Kirtland, New Mexico. She was a graduate of the Mesa Public School class of 1956. She furthered her education at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, Arizona, for two years.
On July 10, 1960, she was united in marriage to Ralph LeRoy Picha Sr. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Safford, Arizona. They were later sealed for all time and eternity in the Mesa, Arizona, Temple. Their marriage was blessed with seven children, Jean, Ralph Jr., Cynthia, Kristine, Lynette, Rebecca and Edward. The couple resided on the family farm outside of Glencoe and shared 56 years of marriage.
In addition to being a loving homemaker to her husband children, Mrs. Picha worked as a telephone operator and as a home health aide for McLeod County for 22 years until she retired in 2004. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Hutchinson and served tirelessly in many callings over the years. She also served as an adult leader in Cub Scout Pack 246, as an elected chairwoman in the Rich Valley Homemakers, and as a 4-H leader.
She enjoyed traveling with her family. She also enjoyed canning and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends. She was an expert at driving a tractor and baler.
In recent years, she had faced Alzheimer’s Disease. She was lovingly cared for by her husband and children.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Picha Sr. of Glencoe; children, Carol Jean (Brian) Finney of San Jose, California, Ralph Picha Jr. of Dodge Center, Cynthia (Scott) Litzau of Glencoe, Kristine Picha (husband Peter Harff) of Mankato, Lynette (Tim) Hoese of St. Cloud, Rebecca (Jeremy) Mallak of Nicollet and Edward Picha of Glencoe; 15 grandchildren, Blake, Andrew, Brent, Caleb, Graham, Lucy, Emma, Zereta, Grace, Silas, Makayla, Savanna, Chase, Izaiah and Madison; siblings, Joy Laynton of Central, Arizona, Eldon (Irene) Angle of Safford, Arizona, Merline Angle of Richfield, Utah, and Betty Larson of Safford, Arizona; brother-in-law, Skip Higgins of Chino City, Arizona; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Zereta Angle; siblings, Edith (Jay) Higgins, Lila Higgins, Velma (Val) Millett and LaFay Angle; and brothers-in-law, Raey Laynton and LeRoy Larson.
The family would like to thank Carol’s doctor of many years, Bryan Petersen, and the staff at Lakeview Ranch for their loving care, and also Heartland and Allina hospices.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
