A fourth consecutive blowout loss put hopes of a .500 record on the ropes as the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team was thumped 56-7 at Dassel-Cokato on Friday, Oct. 5.
The contest followed a familiar script as of late for the Panthers. The Chargers built a large early lead, with GSL unable to mount much at all in the way of an offensive or defensive threat.
A pair of first-quarter touchdown passes gave D-C more than enough cushion in the contest. However, the Chargers broke the game wide open with two more scoring passes and one run into the endzone to take a 35-0 lead into halftime.
D-C increased its advantage to 49-0 with a pair of short touchdown runs in the third quarter before GSL found joy at last in the final frame.
It was short-lived joy, however, as Will Higgins’ nine-yard touchdown run with 5:14 remaining in the fourth quarter was immediately negated by the Chargers, who posted their final touchdown with a 90-yard return of the ensuing kickoff that concluded the scoring on the evening.
The Panthers amassed just 164 yards of total offense in the game, while allowing D-C 369 total yards on the ground and through the air.
