Board Chair Alsleben called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The following board members were present: Christianson, Lindeman, Kuester, Twiss and VonBerge. In addition, Superintendent Chris Sonju, Business Manager Michelle Sander, Principals Bill Butler and Matt Foss, Assistant Principal Joy Freitag, Administrative Assistant Shelley Renville, GSL Technology Staff Mike Morris, McLeod County Chronicle Editor John Mueller along with numerous citizens from the Community.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
1. Announcements: The next regular School Board meeting will be on Monday, January 14th, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the GSL Schools Community Room #443/444.
2. Superintendent Sonju recognized Clark Christianson and Anne Twiss for serving 12 years on the school board.
3. Public input: Assistant Principal Daniel Svoboda, David Brown, Kathy Olson and Madelynn Brown all referenced Agenda Items A & B – Contracts for Superintendent Sonju and Business Manager Sander and requested the board members renew their contracts.
4. Reports/Presentations: Business Manager Sander, Principals Butler and Foss, Assistant Principal Freitag and Superintendent Sonju reported to the board. Director Christianson reported on the Field House.
5. Lindeman motioned to approve the agenda. Christianson seconded. All in favor, motion carried.
6. Twiss motioned to approve the consent agenda. VonBerge seconded. All in favor, motion carried. November bills; regular Board meeting minutes of November 13, 2018. Hirings: Tim Eastman, Long-Term Substitute, filling in for Traci Schwarzrock while on maternity leave, starting on approximately January 10, 2019. Resignations: Taylor Jones, 8th grade Girls Softball Coach; Brenda Langanki, Assistant Business Manager. Leave Requests: Julie Nowak, Paraprofessional, for approximately 2-3 months, beginning January 2, 2019. Eliminate a Paraprofessional position, held by Ali Willard, due to the student moving out of the school district.
7. Kuester motioned to approve a three-year contract with Superintendent Sonju from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2022. VonBerge seconded. All in favor, motion carried.
8. VonBerge motioned to approve a three-year contract with Business Manager Sander from July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2022. Christianson seconded. All in favor, motion carried.
9. Twiss motioned to approve the following High School overloads: Chris Bick: 1/3 overload - 1st trimester and 1/3 overload - 2nd trimester; Wanda Collins: 1/3 overload - 1st trimester and 1/3 overload – 2nd trimester; Rob DeCorsey: 1/3 overload – 1st trimester and Amber Hlavka: 1/3 overload – 2nd trimester, Kuester seconded. All in favor, motion carried.
10. Lindeman motioned to set the final 2018 payable 2019 levy at $3,677,900.23. This is an increase of $11,230.70 or 0.31%. Christianson seconded. All in favor, motion carried.
11. Twiss motioned to approve the Middle School STEM trip to Boston and New York in June 2020. Lindeman seconded. All in favor, motion carried.
12. Christianson motioned to accept the following donations: Silver Lake Lions Club, Glencoe Rotary, Plato Lions Club, New Auburn VFW, Anderson Insurance, Brownton Lions, Silver Lake Knights of Columbus and Silver Lake American Legion. Alsleben seconded. All in favor, motion carried.
13. Farewell speeches were given by Christianson and Twiss. Their terms on the board end on January 1, 2019. Kuester and Alsleben addressed the board and the public.
14. Christianson motioned to adjourn meeting at 8:22 p.m. Twiss seconded. All in favor, motion carried.
