The Glencoe-Silver Lake Panther Paws gymnastics program had a big day at the Midwest Amateur Gymnastics Association Division 8 meet in New Prague on Saturday, March 2.
The Panther Paws Lightning team surpassed expectations to win the division title with a season best score of 111.2.
The Lightning came into the meet with the third-lowest average score out of eight division teams at 108.05, but rocketed past their average to take the title.
In addition to winning the division crown, the nine-gymnast squad also earned the division’s Sportsmanship Award for the second year in a row.
The Panther Paws coaching staff of Trisha Fenske, Traci Schwarzrock, Ilsa Eischens, Samantha Schilling and Brianna Giese also shared the Coach of the Year honors.
“A positive pep talk from the coaches to start warm-ups and a focus to limit falls on beam and bars helped push the girls to success,” Fenske said. “The girls put forth their best efforts, attitude, and determination to earn all three awards.”
Individually at the divisional meet, Ashley Wise and Erin Tews took first and second place in the Senior age group all-around with respective scores of 29.325 and 25.35. The duo placed first and second in each event, with Wise winning the uneven bars (6.6), balance beam (7.375) and floor exercise (7.425), while Tews won on vault (8.2).
Jacey Wischnack placed second in the Novice with an all-around score of 27.625.
Aubree Schwanz was sixth in the Junior all-around at 26.9, while Taryn Zellmann was seventh in the Junior group with a 26.45.
