Chris and Owen Graf share more than a last name. The father-son tandem from Sumter Township shares a thrill of driving around a dirt racetrack just as fast as they can. Racing on the edge has its pleasures.
Chris Graf drives a sprint car powered by a 360-cubic-inch motor. Its capable of speeds exceeding 100 mph. A motor capable of cranking out 20 horsepower powers Owen’s junior wing cart. The small racer can reach 60 mph. They’ll race wherever the combination of possible prize money versus travel time and expense makes the most sense.
Owen expects he’ll eventually climb the ladder and race in classes with cars providing greater speed and power. Next year’s car will likely be one his father previously raced.
